5 Mistakes to Avoid When Buying an Air Conditioner

Written by on Saturday, 24 December 2016 3:45 am

Buying an air conditioner is not as easy as it sounds. Several things have to be taken into considerations before buying an AC unit. Leaving the pricing and budget part, purchasing an AC needs several other calculations too, for example the size of the unit, the efficiency of its little parts and so on. And, quite obviously, things tend to get messed up and you end up making mistakes. Let’s just see what exactly are the mistakes that you should avoid while buying an AC unit.

1. The Wrong-sized Unit

Most of the buyers do not usually have a clear idea about the available space in their house and thus end up buying the wrong sized product. Depending on the size, the efficiency and cooling capacity of the AC unit differs. In case a unit is too large or too small in respect with the space, the efficiency is reduced. Determining the right size is important and unfortunately you end up doing the mistake.

2. The installation

With poor knowledge of AC and its size and capacity, it’s easy to make incorrect aircon installation. The right way of installation is that the rear end should be an inch lower than the front end. Even the least of glitches can hinder the effortless water drainage. Also, there are issues like aircon repair problems and aircon leaking to handle at the time of installation. Most of us do not have any proper idea about the installation procedure and thus, and improper installation results in water leakage from front and sides. A defective installation also gives problems like aircon not cooling effectively.

3. The improper positioning of the AC unit

One of the leading mistakes is the improper positioning. Location of the AC unit has a lot to do with the cooling capacity and efficiency of the AC. According to the rule, it should be kept in a shady plot where the effects of sunlight is little lower. Keep in mind that the system should be well ventilated for working seamlessly. Don’t forget to remove the plants or shrubs covering the outer side of the unit.

4. Running the unit 24/7

Like all other machines AC can’t withstand 24/7 operations. Also, it impacts your utility bills. So, run it for not more than 30 minutes at a stretch.

5. Poor Maintenance

It’s quite detrimental for the longevity of your AC. If you are not maintaining the property that cost you a fortune, then what’s the point of buying it? A complete aircon servicing once a year is mandatory for AC that are lightly used, but you can also clean the dust and grime accumulated in the AC filters to maintain it every quarterly.

Keep in mind that air conditioners are expensive investments. If you are not sure about the product and the little details about it, does some research before you spend your hard earned money on it.
